The Hedgehog Concept

Posted on Oct 2nd, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
If everyone considered this before launching into whatever it is they do to earn a living the world would be a much (MUCH!) different place.

The Hedgehog Concept

Been doing a lot (LOT!) of thinking about this concept lately...

Waiting On The World To Change

Posted on Oct 2nd, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
Love the melody on John Mayer's new song.  *Hate* the lyrics...
me and all my friends
we're all misunderstood
they say we stand for nothing and
there's no way we ever could
now we see everything that's going wrong
with the world and those who lead it
we just feel like we don't have the means
to rise above and beat it

so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it's hard to beat the system
when we're standing at a distance
so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
now if we had the power
to bring our neighbors home from war
they would have never missed a Christmas
no more ribbons on their door
and when you trust your television
what you get is what you got
cause when they own the information, oh
they can bend it all they want

that's why we're waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it's not that we don't care,
we just know that the fight ain't fair
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

and we're still waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
one day our generation
is gonna rule the population
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

Here's a thought. Be the change.

Cracking the Top 100

Posted on Oct 6th, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
One of my goals for this year is to listen to all of the albums on Rolling Stone's Top 500 Albums of All Time list (at least the ones that they have on Rhapsody).  I just finished listening to #101 (Fresh Cream by Cream) which means I'm on to the Top 100.  I've really enjoyed this as it's been a great way to discover some new music and learn more about music history.  Makes sitting down to crank out some work at the computer a lot of fun!

Anyway, just thought I'd share.  And yup, I'm a dork. :)

OK, time to listen to Ol' Blue Eyes...

Every thought is a prayer

Interesting concept huh?

"You are always praying; thought itself is prayer."

Getting outta my frickin' left brain

Posted on Oct 19th, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
So lately I've been feeling like I've been in a little bit of a creative rut.  For some strange reason it didn't occur to me that it's probably because I'm almost always in my analytical left brain (if you buy into that whole theory).  I'm a "thinker" and giving that up and experiencing art, music, etc. can be a challenge for me.  So tonight I took a break from the office and rolled over to Barnes & Noble and picked up a few art and design books that looked interesting.  It was a kick-ass break from the norm.

My favorite was this collection of street art from women graffiti artists entitled (aptly enough) Graffiti Women.  Amazing stuff...

Anyway, I plan to do a lot more of this right brain immersion in the future and I'd love to hear any suggestions any of y'all might have...books...activities, etc.  Dan Pink has a ton of them in his latest book A Whole New Mind (great effin' book by the way!).  But I'm on the prowl from more...lay it on me!

Team Hoyt

I blogged this before but a buddy of mine just sent me another video and seeing as how you can now embed videos here at Zaadz (yeah!) I thought I'd do so. Definitely a story that can't be shared too much...

Here's a link to the story in case you'd like to read it.

Quote of the Day

Posted on Oct 23rd, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
You must know that in any moment a decision you make can change the course of your life forever: the very next person stand behind in line or sit next to on an airplane, the very next phone call you make or receive, the very next movie you see or book you read or page you turn could be the one single thing that causes the floodgates to open, and all of the things that you've been waiting for to fall into place.

-Tony Robbins

Kinda gives ya goosebumps huh?

“If you were to die right now how you would feel about..."

Posted on Oct 25th, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
Great post from my buddy Noah over at OKDork

I am uncertain of mine but right now I don’t want to sacrifice doing things for money over doing things that I feel contribute back to society and I can feel good about. I think Steve Jobs said it best a few years ago:

“If you were to die right now how you would feel about what you accomplished on Earth?”

Love (LOVE!) this one...

Prolutions

Posted on Oct 30th, 2006 by Jon : Billionaire Jon
I like this idea (although it needs a better name...).  Here are my Prolutions:

By December 31st I will:

-Qualify for the Boston Marathon
-Close our first round of funding for LearnOutLoud (you want in? ;)

OK, your turn...what are your Prolutions?

(P.S.  You can see all my goals here.)
